RPS appoints new director in Scotland

Incoming RPS Scotland director Clare Morrison

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed Clare Morrison as its director in Scotland.

Ms Morrison comes into the role having led the Scottish government’s national video consultation service Near Me and developed a variety of initiatives designed to improve pharmaceutical care and medicines safety in the country.

Ms Morrison also led NHS Highland’s pharmacy pilot patient safety programme. She takes over at the RPS from Alex MacKinnon who has retired.

She will oversee national policy development, professional advocacy and member engagement across the country and work alongside Scottish Pharmacy Board on leading the profession north of the border.

“I believe now, more than ever, that pharmacy has an exciting future. Every profession needs a strong professional body, so it is a huge honour to be appointed to this role and to be part of achieving the RPS mission of putting pharmacy at the forefront of healthcare," she said.

“I am really looking forward to being part of RPS, working with other professional and patient organisations, and most importantly, with every pharmacy team across Scotland to realise the opportunities the future holds.”

RPS chief executive Paul Bennett said: “Clare brings extensive experience of working in partnership with a wide variety of organisations across different sectors of pharmacy and the NHS in Scotland.

“She has worked at both national and international level and I’m delighted she’s joining us to ensure we are in a strong position to deliver on behalf of members, the profession and patients.

“Reporting directly to Robbie Turner, director of pharmacy and member experience, Clare will work closely with our existing Directors for England and Wales to make sure local health policy is influenced, shaped and joined up across GB where appropriate.”
